Our culture

We have a grown-up culture that's collaborative and focused on outputs. Everyone at Ambition has a strong desire to be the best we can be, both individually and as a team. Who are we?

We're an eclectic bunch of people with a diverse mix of personalities, interests, ages and backgrounds. We like to have fun but we recognise that fun means different things to different people so it's not all about the crazy boozy nights out here (although, rest assured, we do have plenty of those too if that's your thing!).

In a nutshell

Ambition is a global, boutique recruitment business with offices in London, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. In London, we solely focus on recruiting Business Services and Business Advisory positions for Professional Services (mainly legal, accountancy, management consultancy and property firms). We recruit for roles at all levels of seniority on a permanent, temporary and FTC basis within: • Finance & Accounting • Corporate Finance • BD Marketing & Communications • Insolvency & Restructuring • PA & Business Support.

Training and development

• We are passionate about developing careers - lots of our people have progressed through the ranks from junior consultants with no prior recruitment experience into senior roles. • We offer multiple career paths, allowing you to either focus on billing or take on more managerial responsibilities. • We have an onsite Learning & Development specialist who works with the Managers and Principal Consultants to provide in-house, tailored training programmes. • External trainers are also invited in on an ad hoc basis to fill any specific gaps in skills or knowledge. • As a manager or principal consultant, you will also receive regular management and performance training sessions using an external consultant.

10 years in London, 20 years of Ambition

We were established in Sydney in 1999 - so this year we'll be celebrating 20 years in business! Our UK office was acquired in 2008 - last year marked our 10 year anniversary which we celebrated with a huge party for all our employees and key clients.


Boutique, but global

Globally, we have around 250 employees. Our London office currently stands at 35 team members - 28 consultants and 6 corporate services - but we're growing fast and have some ambitious plans for 2019! Our size gives us the best of both worlds: it means that we all know each other well and have the soul and personality of a small company, yet we still benefit from the reach and prestige of being part of a successful, global brand.

Our mission and values

We live by our mission of Building Better Futures and our values of Passion, Resourcefulness, Integrity, Drive and Enjoyment. These aren't just empty statements either. Once a month, our values champions, nominated by their colleagues, get taken out for a celebratory breakfast with the MD, Nicky, to recognise their hard work.

We have a mentor scheme whereby senior consultants and above can mentor a more junior employee from another team.

• Joined as an Associate Consultant back in 2009 after graduating. • After 3 years in London, transferred to our Singapore office as a Senior Consultant • Stepped up into management • Moved back to London in 2016 to take up an Associate Director role • Promoted to Director in 2018 "I’ve had a long journey here at Ambition, I’ve progressed a lot within a relatively short time frame and I think there are still many more things to learn, but I feel very positive about what the future holds, both for Ambition and for my own career."

Michelle's journey to Principal Consultant

• Joined Ambition as a consultant back in 2005. • Progressed to Senior Consultant and later Principal Consultant • Spent 10 years focusing on temporary and contract recruitment • 3 years ago decided to broaden her skillset to focus on permanent recruitment "As someone who has never been interested in management, I like the fact I have been able to progress my career to the most senior level as a billing consultant without being pressurised into taking on a management role – that’s something that I really value."



We have a very clear commission structure. Everybody knows what they have to do and how much they will earn based on their billings. For our Consultants and Managers, remuneration is made up of fixed base salaries as well as incentive based commissions and bonuses. Our top billing consultant last year took home a c.£155K package. We offer a range of commission percentages from 28-38% individually, with additional team bonuses and team incentives also available. The level of commission you can earn depends on which type of role you hold in the business. We always ensure we are transparent when it comes to bonuses and commission so that you know exactly how much you will be earning.
